  3. Wild Regency - paranormal, time travel, other similar
  4. Sweet & Mild Regency - traditional, inspirational, young adult, or other without explicit sex

In the Royal Ascot Contest, the categories are used only to determine judging panels.

But, in the Royal Ascot Readers’ Choice Category Awards, the categories are used to determine which category an entry will be judged in.

JUDGES

Royal Ascot Contest

There will be at least three judges for each entry in the Royal Ascot Contest, at least one of whom is published in Regency Romance. Lowest score will be dropped. In the event of a tie, the lowest score will determine which entry moves on to the final round.

The 2019 Royal Ascot Contest final round judges are:

  • Brenda Chin — Entangled Publishing
  • Janet Clementz — Soul Mate Publishing
  • Deb Werksman — Sourcebooks
  • Janna Bonikowski — The Knight Agency
  • Lizzie Poteet — The Seymour Agency

Royal Ascot Readers’ Choice Category Awards

Entries will be judged by registered reader-judges drawn from eligible subscribers to the Regency Reader.  Beau Monde members who subscribe to the Regency Reader are ineligible to participate as reader-judges.

Entries will be judged only within their nominated category, and assigned a rating from 1 (lowest) to 5 by each registered reader-judge assigned to that category. All scores for an entry will be totaled, and the entry achieving the highest score within its category will be deemed to be the winner, providing that score represents at least 70% of the available points. In the event that the highest scoring entry achieves a score of less than 70%, the decision to present an award will be at the discretion of the Royal Ascot Competition Coordinator.

Reader-judges are also required to provide their Reader Impression via written comments.

NoteIf a category has less than three entries, that category will not be judged

WINNERS

Royal Ascot Readers’ Choice Category Awards

In each category, providing the minimum scoring requirement is met, the entry achieving the highest total score will be deemed to be the winner. In the event of a tie, the tied entrants will be deemed to be Joint Winners in their category.
